This is NOT hosted by Bing Crosby ! ! February 21, 2010 Hephzibah (USA) "Bing Crosby's White Christmas All Star Show" is the most misleading DVD title I've ever seen.
Yes, Bing does appear briefly to sing "White Christmas"... but he most definitely did NOT host the show, he did NOT introduce performer, and he did NOT organize the production. If you are looking for one of those wonderful Christmas specials that he did, you will be sadly disappointed.
Second, this is NOT the entire production, as is evidenced by the fact that all participants introduced themselves at the very beginning, and there were several who did not appear until the final song (done with the entire cast), where people such as Shirley MacLaine were visible (she was in a dance costume, as was another woman who did not perform, so both must have danced).
HOWEVER. There are some performances that "redeemed" the purchase for me. The superb pianist Van Cliburn, fresh from his history-making victory in the Moscow competition... Walter Pigeon and two others doing a great quick-tongued piece of humor... Danny Kaye singing a duet with Louie Armstrong... Jack Benny, George Burns, and Jimmy Stewart doing a song-and-dance routine (yes, Jimmy Stewart!)... Anna Maria Alberghetti, Lena Horne, Gale Storm were among the varied singers... Milton Berle and Bob Hope did monologues (I'd never enjoyed Milton's performances that I'd seen on TV, but this one was great)...
If the title was "USO All Star Christmas Show" (which was what the show was), and if they had included all the performances, it would probably earn 5 stars.
Collogeuge of Old artists performing at Christmas January 9, 2010 KAthryn F. Boone (SacCa) I bought this to watch old Christmas type shows. Contains many great artist performing together like noone today. Great to watch during the holidays as a treat. The entertainment is very different from what this generation is use to,oh,well great to watch and share.
It's not BING ! December 15, 2009 SAM (NH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While there are some great performances that people, over sixty will enjoy, this is not a Bing Crosby show, He only performs White Christmas, which is one of only two Christmas songs on this video. This is a USO produced show, and nothing to do with Bing's Christmas shows.

I am to young to remember this, but with that said I have always loved Bing Crosby. This DVD does not fail when it comes to the classic Christmas shows that USED to be on TV. It is a production by the USO for US troops overseas and is has 50 top names and of course the wonderful Bing Crosby singing White Christmas. If you want to see something a nostalgic this Christmas this is the one to get!!
Be Careful Of What You Are Ordering! August 12, 2009 J. Michael (Ytown, OH) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Amazon has seen fit to mix reviews of a no-longer available compilation of moments from Bing Crosby's Christmas specials from the 60's, 70's, etc with what is simply a fuzzy, muffled recording of USO shows. The white DVD with red Christmas ornaments showing pictures of Crosby and four other stars is the USO recording that I'm talking about. It's fine if you want to spend 90 mins with the music of the now dead, but it has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with Crosby's beloved Christmas specials. In fact, there may be just one Christmas song on it, if that. If you are picturing appearances and performances by his children, this isn't what you want. If you remember watching Crosby Christmas specials in color, this isn't what you want. It's my fault that I didn't read more than the rave review that was first on this page and blindly ordered something I am never going to sit through, even once.
